Applying


To apply, please complete the APPLICATION FORM and return it along with your $50 nonrefundable deposit. This deposit will be applied toward the fee of $350 for Institute competitors and $300 for Institute non-competing participants. (Competitors, see HICM Application form for preliminary recording requirement.)

The application deadline, including CD, for all competitors and overseas non-competing participants is April 15, and the application deadline for U.S. non-competing participants is May 1, 2008. Late applications will be accepted only if enrollment permits. As soon as the application and deposit are received, Outreach College will send a confirmation to the applicant and will forward application materials to the UH Music Department. The Music Department will send a notice of acceptance and status for the Institute by May 23, 2008.

Payment


Balance of the tuition payment is due June 21, 2008. Make checks for P09612 Hawai‘i Institute for Contemporary Music payable (in U.S. funds) to University of Hawai‘i. If you need to cancel after the deadline, the full fee (minus $50 application fee) will be refunded as long as written notification is received by July 28, 2008. After July 28, no refund will be made.

Housing


Applications for housing at HICM rates are posted on the program web. Please download and send as directed by the deadlines.

A limited block of Lincoln Hall studios, suitable for one or two persons sharing a bed, has been arranged at the East-West Center, adjacent to the University of Hawai‘i campus. The rooms are $52 per night, and may be reserved between August 1 and 10. Studios are “first come first served,” and limited to one room per HICM competitor or participant and parent or legal guardian if under 18; or participant and spouse/partner if over 18.

East-West Center Housing reservations must be secured, using the housing application form, by May 15, 2008.  After receiving your confirmation, any changes must be made in writing and sent directly to East-West Center Housing Office, 1711 East-West Road, Honolulu, HI 96848 (or fax to 808-944-7790). The fee for one night is charged for any cancellation made less than 60 days before check-in, and the fee for two nights is charged for any cancellation less than 30 days before check-in. No-shows are charged for two nights.

Separate arrangements have been made with the Ocean Resort Waikiki, approximately 2.8 miles from the University. (Transportation to and from the University is on your own.) City-view rooms with one queen bed or two single beds (suitable for one to two persons) are available for $84 plus tax per night.  City-view suites with one king or two double beds and kitchenette (suitable for one to four persons) are available for $100 plus tax, while ocean-view suites with the same features are $123 plus tax per night.  Check-in can be as early as August 1 and check-out as late as August 10.  

Ocean Resort Waikiki reservations. using the HICM Institute booking code on the Hotel Reservation Form, must be made by July 1, 2008. All rooms are “first come first served,” and are booked directly with the resort. No-shows and cancellations less than seventy-two (72) hours before the time of check-in are charged for one night.

Hawai‘i Institute for Contemporary Music Check-in


Hawai‘i Institute for Contemporary Music check-in is on Sunday, Aug 3, 2008 from 1:00-4:00 pm. At this time all competitors and participants will receive schedules and other pertinent information.



Individuals who complete registration as of the June 21 deadline receive admission to all recitals, lectures, master classes, and the competition.

Master Class Consideration


Institute participants who wish to be considered for performance in a master class, please submit a CD of two contrasting pieces by April 15. Participation in the master class is not required. Competitors: your preliminary recording for the competition will be used for master class consideration unless you provide a separate recording for master class consideration.
